MEET THE ARTIST

Diane Slobotkin headshot_edit_B.jpg

Diane Slobotkin is a distinguished artist and graduate of Syracuse University, holding a Bachelor's degree in History of Art and a minor in Italian. She further honed her skills at the Art Students League, School of Visual Arts, and The New School in Manhattan. A native New Yorker, her artwork is widely collected throughout the New York metropolitan area and has received numerous awards for its excellence.

As a "Direct Carver," Slobotkin seeks out natural stones and wood in their unaltered forms, emphasizing movement and flow to accentuate the inherent beauty of organic materials.

Additionally, she explores bold color interactions in her paintings to evoke mood and incorporates collage elements to create rich, textured compositions, demonstrating her versatile and dynamic artistic approach.

ARTIST STATEMENT

"My artwork serves as an expressive exploration of mood, capturing moments of silence and turmoil through dynamic contrasts of form, space, and time—serving as abstract reflections of timelessness. Throughout my career as a painter and sculptor, I have been inspired by dance—both modern and classical—focusing on movement and rhythm as central themes. While my primary materials have included marble, alabaster, and onyx, I have recently developed a profound appreciation for cocobolo wood, whose rare and captivating beauty continues to inspire my creative practice.”
